SOUTH MIDLANDS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The North Wales Tae Kwon Do Championships were held at Deeside Leisure Centre on 8th February.  Whitchurch Malpas And Oswestry Tae Kwon Do School had seven members competing and came away with five medals. Nine year old Katie Landsborough competed in the girls yellow belt Patterns and Sparring categories. She came third in the patterns competition taking the Bronze medal. She then took Gold in the sparring competition to become the 2009 North Wales champion. 

Also competing at the North Wales Championships was Brother and Sister, Billy and Sarah Chandler.  Billy (13) won a Silver medal in the boys red belt division, in a hard fought final.  Billy showed courage and determination after suffering an eye injury in his second round bout and spending the time between rounds with the medics.  Sarah (11) won a bronze medal in the girls red belt division, Sarah had a busy day also competition in the patterns competition and the Musical patterns competition.

Devon Round (9) competed in the boy’s Blue belt Pee Wee division, where he won a bronze medal.  The Pee Wee division is for competitors below 4 foot 6 inches, although they are small in stature this does not take away the determination of the competitors.  Devon put in a massive performance battling through, despite receiving a knock causing a nose bleed.  Devon’s determination and skill did not go unnoticed by the referee and judges who agreed with his instructor, that he has huge potential after putting in an awesome performance.

Also competing at the North Wales Championships were Oryan Lightning and Duncan Paine.
