WELSH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Welsh Champ

The Tae Kwon Do Welsh Championships were held at prestigious National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff on Sunday 18th May.  Whitchurch and Malpas Tae Kwon Do School were represented by two competitors and brought home two trophies!

Oryan Lightning, who recently competed in the European Championships in Cork, retuned from Cardiff with a bronze medal in the Boys Tag Team event.  Red belt Oryan put his team together on the day, teaming up with two other competitors in his category.  The tag team event is a continuous four minute round, which is run on a point stop system.  Meaning that when a competitor scores a point the bout is stopped.  It is only during these stoppages that a team member can tag another member of his team.  During the four minutes all team members must fight.

Stephen Lovatt competed in the Men’s Green belt, patterns and light weight sparring division. In only his second ever competition Stephen beat off the competition in the sparring event to come home as 2008 Welsh Champion.
