OCTOBER NEWS

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS

The TAGB Tae Kwon Do British Championships were held at prestigious Nottingham Arena on Sunday 14th October.  Whitchurch, Malpas and Oswestry Tae Kwon Do School were represented by seven competitors and brought home three trophies between them.

Helen Morris battled hard to be victorious in Executive Ladies Green Belt sparring division, adding the British Championship title to the North Midlands and North Wales championship titles that she won earlier in the year.
Meanwhile competing for the first time Callum Morris (no relation to Helen) picked up the second place trophy in the Heavyweight Boys yellow belt sparring competition having only been training in Tae Kwon Do for just six months!  Callum fought off some tough competition to get to the final and was unlucky not to become a British Champion at his first competition.

Oryan Lightning won second place for sparring in the boys tag team event.  Oryan put together his team of three on the day of the competition.  The tag team event is a continuous four minute round.  Team members can only tag during a stoppage in the bout, but all team members must fight at some point.

Also competing were Billy Chandler, his Sister, Sarah Chandler, Devon Round and Irene Eagleton.

Instructor Peter Rudolf said that this is a great result for the individuals and the School, It makes me very proud to see our students competing whether they win trophies or not.  But to have a British Champion in the school is absolutely fantastic.  Congratulations to all of the students that took part.

WHITEWATER RAFTING TRIP

rafting

raft groupAs a break from Tae Kwon Do, we arranged a white water rafting trip. I am sure that all who attended would agree that it was a great success. Everyone had a great time.

raft briefAfter a short safety briefing we were let loose on the River Dee at Llangollen, in inflatable rafts, for two hours of fun!

The group was spilt between three rafts and the rivalry was fierce.  If you didn’t get wet because of the rapids, you would have certainly got drench by the members of the other rafts.

Some people seemed to think it was really good fun to try and drown their instructor, by sitting on top of them and pushing their head into the waterfall!  Well it didn’t raftingwork and I know who you are!  Don’t forget there is no hiding place in the Dojang!

To add to the excitment we were given the oportunity to swim down the rapids as well, this was really good fun once you get used to the cold water hitting you.

raftingAfter peeling off our wetsuit and draining the water out of ears, we went and had a nice hot cup of coffee in the riverside café, were we discussed plans for the next trip to the river.
