FEBRUARY NEWS

NORTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIPS

The North Wales Championships were held at Deeside Leisure Centre on Sunday 11th February. Whitchurch, Malpas and Oswestry Tae Kwon Do School were represented by six competitors and brought home four trophies between them.

Helen Morris from Oswestry became North Wales Champion for Sparring in Ladies Yellow and Green Belt division. Whilst Alison Arrowsmith also from Oswestry came second for sparring in the Yellow and Green Belt Executive Ladies division. Not satisfied with that Alison also took third place for patterns in the same division. Both ladies were competing in their first competition having only been training in Tae Kwon Do for just six months starting in September of last year!

  Clock Wise from the Left:
Alison Arrowsmith, 2nd in sparring 3rd in Patterns. Carl Rudolf, North Wales Champion 2007 (Sparring). Helen Morris, North Wales Champion 2007 (Sparring). Oryan Lightning, 2nd in Sparring.

Oryan Lightning of Whitchurch won second place for sparring in the boys Green and Yellow belt, lightweight division. Oryan fought off some tough competition to get to the final. Also in the same category but unplaced on this occasion was Billy Chandler again from Whitchurch. Billy’s Sister, Nine year old Sarah Chandler competed in the Musical Patterns competition with a pattern that she devised and choreographed herself. Sarah was joint second but unfortunately missed out on a trophy as only first place is awarded a prize in this category. The only adult competitor for Whitchurch was John Bickley who competed in the Men’s Green and Yellow belt sparring.

Not to be left out Instructor Carl Rudolf became North Wales Champion in the Men’s Black Belt, middle weight division. Instructor Peter Rudolf said that this is a fantastic result for the School, we are going from strength to strength in competitions and I look forward to great things to come, especial with the World Championship in Birmingham coming up in June this year and being open to colour belts for the first time. It makes me very proud to see our students competing and winning trophies. Congratulations to all of the students that took part. I am hoping that we can build on this success in future competitions.
